I’ve had a couple of other newsletters over the past 5 years. Yet, they all stopped for a myriad of reasons. The underbelly was really a convergence of two disparate pieces: one, there was too much structure, and two, they were often too extrinsically motivated, lending themselves to fade. I didn’t plan to write this… so this feels uniquely different.
It’s coming from a different place.
It’s orienting beyond the mind, radiating from the heart.
I arrived at a co-working space on a misty San Francisco day, where the clouds hovered especially low. I had a few work items I needed to wrap up, plus a larger project with active deadlines, but suddenly, my attention shifted. My focus was no longer on what I’d planned. Instead, I found myself scrolling on Substack after Substack.
Why was I doing this?
Didn’t I have other goals, other commitments for the day?
You make plans, God laughs.
30-minutes passed, 60 minutes.
Was I really creating a Substack?
I felt the conflicting parts of myself come online—my inner monologue racing: Wait, but I thought… we had that thing… hey, weren’t we going to focus on… what is happening here? Eventually, I let the tension dissolve. I allowed that deeper essence to make its way through.
And so, Emergence with Rachel Weissman was born—a seed planted so long ago, quietly waiting in the background, needing just the right bit of care, maybe a shake, maybe that extra bit of soil. Because truly, cultivating curiosity, deep listening, and trust in what authentically emerges within us—and through us—feels vital right now. It’s through that conscious turning inward, that spaciousness in ourselves, that the unplanned has room to blossom—beyond the mind, radiating from the heart.
Together, we’ll interlace art & design, ecology, futurism, human potential, mystical wisdom, and technology—woven together to help you explore new horizons while staying grounded in the essential. We’ll dance with light and darkness, being and becoming—the full spectrum of what makes us human. My hope is that you’ll finish reading feeling both informed and inspired, and a readiness to take action in the world.
Your light, our collective web of light, is needed most.
So, welcome to Emergence—a study for us personally, collectively, and for our dear Mother Earth. I’m so looking forward to walking this path of courageous devotion with you.
With gratitude,
Rachel
